Connecticut home brew contest
I want to thank everyone for all the feedback on the contest. We've been listening to you and other home brewers across the web and our prime concerns are putting on a great Home Brew contest, a great awards ceremony, and benefiting a very deserving charity in the process. It seems that the $150 entry fee has caused a great deal of concern and trepidation. As such, we hear and understand your concerns and have decided to reduce the entry fee to $50. I hope everyone finds that much more acceptable and I hope you all decide to take part in what's going to be a great event.
We have an incredible lineup of judges ready to evaluate all the brews, and the event on Sept 28th at the Wadsworth Mansion will be one to remember. Its an incredible location, and Whole Foods will be providing food, so we are all looking forward to a great event.
Again, thanks for your input, and I hope all of you will consider taking part.
Sincerely, Curt Cameron - President, Thomas Hooker Brewing Company
Serious Prizes:Grand Prize - $1,500, 20 cases of the winning brew, and the opportunity to assist in brewing and bottling a 20bbl batch of the winning entry at Thomas Hooker Brewing Company. The winning beer will also be distributed, and sold through select retailers throughout the state.
Runner-up - $500 and free entry to next years contest.
People’s Choice Award - $1000 during the event on the September 28th, all attendees will be given a score card on which they will vote for their favorite beer. The beer receiving the most votes will be crowned “People’s Choice Winner”. Keep in mind, “Marketing” your beer to attendees is often part of winning a peoples choice award, so be CREATIVE, and have some fun.
Professional Judges:The competition organizers promise a professionally run competition with feedback for all entries. The competition will be judged by BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) certified judges, and professional brewers who have donated their valuable time. A BJCP style judging will be conducted previous to the “People’s Choice” competition. Winners of both competitions will be announced at the brewfest. Brewers will receive comments on their beers from official BJCP score sheets filled out by the judges recognized by the BJCP and professional brewers who have volunteered their valuable time.
Benefits a Great Cause:A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Village For Families and Children - Founded in 1809, The Village provides many valuable community services. In addition to providing homes for neglected children, The Village provides programs designed to help build a community of strong happy families who protect and nurture children.
